4 parts verm
2 parts whole cooked BR
1 part castings
dash each: Calc. Carb. & Gypsum. per pint.
Moisten consistency of reg. PF cake mix.

What might be some of the pitfalls of trying to colonize pints of this mix for casing in strait verm?

Just thinking out loud. Thanks for any help-

I would skip the gypsum, since you don't need to loosen that substrate... You really don't need the verm either... Whole rice increases your nutrition density... You can break up the resulting cake (recovery is very fast) and make some beds about 1/2 inch thick and case with verm or 50/50.

The way to do it is this. Pre-cook your rice, moisten your castings. Four parts pre-cooked rice, one part damp castings, lightly tossed and loaded loosely in the jar... Then either use a dry verm barrier or polyfil for a contam seal. Use a good shot of inoculum and make sure it's spread about; the castings will soak up a bit of the inoculum so move the needle around.

Once colonized, birth, break up the cakes into trays about 1/2 inch deep.

Easy as Pie
